Individual therapy involves an initial phase of identifying a single client’s concerns, clarifying how I can help, and talking about how therapy with me typically proceeds. Next, as more clear objectives come to light, we will collaboratively understand the best ways to adjust one’s thinking and behavior using insights from their developmental histories as well as an accounting of the client’s current challenges and strengths. While seeking to form a foundation of sustainable problem-solving skills, clients benefit from an increasing understanding of their personal values and the obstacles that get in the way of their living by those values. My therapeutic approach is flexible, generally involving Psychodynamic, Cognitive-Behavioral (CBT), and Emotionally-Focused (EFT) therapeutic techniques. In the end, trust, optimism, and actual skills are developed that allow clients to actively explore new ways to realize their goals.
